Operation New Dawn Results Announced in Chicago Area
Chicago HIDTA-funded initiatives played a lead role in Chicago’s Operation New Dawn.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois, the approximately 60-day operation resulted in 179 defendants charged across 140 newly filed federal cases, 305 fugitives apprehended, and 24 children located and safely returned home.
Efforts like Operation New Dawn demonstrate the importance of collaboration, information sharing, and focused enforcement strategies, which are the foundation of the HIDTA Program, in addressing violent crime, firearms trafficking, drug trafficking, and other threats to public safety.
